Meet Chris Brezski

My wife Sharon and I moved to Newton in 2013 with our one-year-old daughter Ryan. We chose Newton for many of the reasons others do the same – a vibrant and welcoming community, proximity to Boston, and the great public school system. Ryan just finished the third grade and her little brother Colton just finished the first grade at Peirce Elementary.

Growing up outside of Philadelphia, and having spent much of my adult life in and around New York City, I felt the tug to move to the Boston area for a more reasonable balance and quality of living. I always had close family in the greater Boston area, and had the opportunity to attend Red Sox games in my youth – so while I remain a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I at least have been an almost-lifelong Sox fan.

I graduated from Lehigh University, where I met Sharon and studied accounting, and received my MBA from Harvard Business School. I have worked my entire career in the investment management business, within firms both large and small, and I have learned that success requires a great team. My career requires me to manage complexity, make difficult decisions in uncertain environments, and transparently explain my logic to my colleagues and investors. I manage large and complex budgets, negotiate with large corporate entities, and work in committees with sometimes divergent or competing interests. I have built businesses from scratch. All of this requires the same creativity and adaptability that our School Committee will need to manage through the tail end of this pandemic and restore the normalcy of in-person learning.

I have always been involved in education and youth sports and activities, even before Sharon and I had our children. I was a volunteer economics teacher at two public NYC high schools – High School of Art and Design and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School, and I am a frequent youth sports coach in Newton for both of my children’s teams. We are so happy to have chosen Newton as our home to raise our family. I believe I have the experience and skills to make a positive impact on our community’s kids.
